International Clinical Fellowship Programme
A supervised clinical post in a London NHS teaching hospital, for doctors who have completed their training at home and have a sponsor prepared to fund them.
Fellows are registered with the General Medical Council without sitting PLAB, through the hospital's approved sponsoring scheme. You work in your specialty, supervised by a consultant, alongside the department's own doctors.
Who the hospital will consider
Every requirement below is set by the hospital, not by us. We check them before your file goes anywhere so that you are not waiting on a decision that was never going to come.
A completed residency or specialty training programme
You have finished your training in your home country and hold the qualification that follows it.
At least three of the last five years in clinical practice
Time in research, administration or out of practice does not count towards this.
Ten of the last twelve months in your specialty
The post you hold now should be in the specialty you are applying to work in.
IELTS or OET at the level the GMC requires
Your certificate must still be valid when the Trust reviews your file.
A sponsoring body prepared to fund you
A ministry of health, a national health office or an employer. We cannot accept self-funded applications to this programme.
How it works

Eligibility review
You send the form below. We check your background against the entry requirements and reply within five working days. There is nothing to pay and nothing to upload at this stage.

Your file goes to the hospital
If you are eligible we tell you what the placement costs and what the hospital needs from you. We put your file forward once you decide to go ahead. Being put forward is not the same as being offered a post.

The hospital decides
The department reviews your file and interviews you if it wants to. The decision is theirs alone. We handle the paperwork between you, your sponsor and the hospital either way.

Registration and arrival
If you are appointed, we work through GMC registration, the visa route and the hospital's document pack with you until you start.
What this programme is not
This is a clinical post, not a training post. It does not lead to a Certificate of Completion of Training, it does not carry a national training number, and it is not a route to a royal college qualification. Time spent as a fellow is not counted as approved training by the GMC.
Doctors take these posts for UK hospital experience in their specialty and for the references that come with it. If someone tells you a fellowship is a way into UK specialty training, they are wrong.
What it costs
The post is not salaried. Your sponsor pays for the placement, and you are not paid a wage by the hospital while you are in it.
We quote the fee after the eligibility review, in writing, with everything it covers set out line by line. We do not publish a figure because the hospital sets it and it changes between intakes. Nothing is payable to make an enquiry, and nothing is payable until you have a written quote in front of you.
