Empowering the Next Generation of Medical Professionals

UK Medical Electives was established in 2021 and started with hospital placements in London. In 2026, our applicants have access to the choice of 22 specialties across England. We have connected 420+ medical students and doctors around the globe with opportunities to learn and enhance their practice.

Historically, applying independently meant writing to hundreds of consultants and departments one by one, often without knowing who to contact or whether a reply would come. Our organisation collects a single application and liaises with the hospital or practice, eliminating the burden of administration. The hospital or practice retains the final decision to accept or deny applications.

Every placement is an educational experience. Time spent in theatre or on ward rounds brings each applicant steps closer to their desired specialty. For a student, an elective is often the first experience of medicine outside their own medical school. For a doctor, an observership or fellowship provides a closer view of how UK practice is organised. It is an experience that stays with them for the rest of their career.
