UK Medical Electives (UKME) began with a single observership.

Dr Abraham Kayal was an international medical graduate in his internship year when he secured a clinical observership at Freeman Hospital. He arrived without contacts in the UK and without a roadmap. That observership led him to his first NHS post, and the foundation of everything that followed.

What Dr Kayal learned was that building an international medical career depends as much on getting in front of the right consultant, at the right hospital, at the right time as it does on clinical ability. Today, as the Medical Director of UK Medical Electives, he leads a small team that places medical students and doctors into UK hospitals the same way his own career started. UKME handles the administrative paperwork and the hospital liaison, so that our students and doctors can spend their energy on the medicine, and the people they meet while practising it.
